Abstract
Background : Orthodontic treatment is one of the treatments in dentistry that plays a role in improving phonetic, aesthetic, and masticatory abilities. Orthodontic treatment is divided into two types, namely fixed orthodontic treatment and removable orthodontic treatment. Fixed orthodontic treatment can make changes to the face not only in the sagittal plane but also in the vertical plane. The vertical dimensions include Anterior Facial Height (AFH) and Posterior Facial Height (PFH). Measurement of vertical dimensions can indirectly utilize cephalometric radiographs. The reference points used were in accordance with the cephalometric evaluation of the anterior facial height according to the Wylie and Johnson analysis, which divided into 3 points, namely N, ANS and Me. Research purpose: to determine changes in anterior facial height after 6 months of fixed orthodontics in patients at the Dental and Oral Hospital, University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. Methods and Materials : The type of research to be carried out is analytical observational with a case control research design with quantitative data used in the research. The population amounted to 7 people which then only amounted to 5 people who could meet the inclusion criteria. The sampling technique used is total sampling. Anterior facial height measurement is done by adding up the upper anterior facial height (N-ANS) and lower anterior facial height (ANS-Me). Data analysis using SPSS application with Saphiro Wilk normality test and Paired t-test because the data is normally distributed. Results : The subjects in this study were 7 people who performed lateral cephalometric radiographs. However, only 5 people were willing to perform lateral cephalometric Xrays before and after 6 months of fixed orthodontic treatment. Based on the research conducted, it was found that there was a change in anterior facial height after 6 months of fixed orthodontic treatment in patients at the Dental and Oral Hospital, University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, this was indicated by the result of Sig (2-tailed) 0.038 or p <0.05. Conclusion : There is a change in anterior facial height after 6 months of fixed orthodontic treatment in patients at the Dental and Oral Hospital, University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.
