Abstract
Background: The increase in COVID-19 cases in Indonesia has forced the government to enforce a large-scale social restriction policy to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. This has an impact on teaching and learning activities where the learning process is then carried out online. Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) implements this policy so that all educational activities are carried out online. One of the educational activities carried out at the Department of Dentistry in UMY is Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), which is a method of assessing student clinical competence through a rotating station. During the COVID-19 pandemic, OSCE activities at Department of Dentistry UMY were carried out online as an alternative implementation. Online-OSCE is carried out through video conferencing technology to allow examiners observe and assess student competencies. Online-OSCE is considered to be able to reduce student nervousness, accessible, and efficient in rotating stations. However, the obstacles that students and examiners may face are technical problems such as poor internet connection. In addition, hands-on questions are considered impossible in the online-OSCE assessment, so it is necessary to adjust the scenarios and what components can be used for the online-OSCE. Evaluation aims to see the success and efficiency of a program. The online-OSCE evaluation should be carried out comprehensively involving components in online-OSCE activities which includes students and examiners. One of the indicators in the online-OSCE evaluation is reviews of students’ and examiners’ perceptions towards the online-OSCE. Research Objectives: This study was conducted to find out the description of student and examiner perceptions of the online-OSCE at the Department of Dentistry, University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (PSKG UMY). Methods: The research design used is a quantitative descriptive study with a cross sectional approach. The research data was obtained through a questionnaire that was assessed with a 5-point Likert scale to assess the perceptions of students and examiners on aspects of the implementation and satisfaction towards online-OSCE. Analysis of research data was carried out on 193 student respondents and 21 examiner respondents. Result: Most of the students (53.4%) have a favorable perception of the online-OSCE. This can be seen from aspects of implementation and satisfaction that received positive responses from students such as information and instructions regarding exams have been clearly communicated, the Zoom application is reliable for online-OSCE implementation, students now feel comfortable taking online-OSCE, and most of the students have had sufficient experience in online learning systems. Overall, students are also satisfied with the implementation of the online-OSCE. In contrast to the students, most of the examiners have unfavorable perception of the online-OSCE. A total of 14 examiners (66.7%) have unfavorable perception of the online-OSCE. Only 7 examiners (33.33%) have a favorable perception. This can be seen from the the aspects of implementation that tend to get negative responses such as the Zoom application cannot be relied on to invigilate the online-OSCE, the online-OSCE cannot assess the knowledge/skills of students that can not be assessed at the OSCE conducted on campus, and there is no tendency of examiners perception towards the smootness on online-OSCE invigilation process. Conclusion: Interpretation of student perception results shows that most students have a favorable perception of online-OSCE while most examiners have unfavorable perception of online-OSCE
