Abstract

Various innovations in learning vocabulary began to emerge in accordance with the developing technological era, one of which was learning vocabulary through the digital game media The Sims, which was considered a meaningful medium for learning vocabulary. The research aims to deal with ELED students' perspectives on The Sims as a medium in learning meaningful vocabulary. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. The participants of this study were four students majoring in English education at a private university in Yogyakarta. The method used to achieve the objectives of this study is an interview. Based on the results and discussions in this study, all of the four participants had a positive experience with the Digital Simulationbased game "The Sims" for meaningful vocabulary learning. The Sims gives students the experience to learn meaningful vocabulary by providing a written vocabulary feature in every game setting, containing vocabulary related to daily life with visual examples and concepts. For the findings found on the perception of participants using The Sims to learn vocabulary, there are five findings which is divided into three findings about the effectiveness of The Sims by saying that The Sims is an interesting medium for learning vocabulary, provides long-term vocabulary and can be used at all levels. The other two are findings of the ineffectiveness of The Sims by saying that The Sims cannot be used to learn pronunciation and The Sims has a vast vocabulary scale.
