Abstract

Audio-visual media are one of the most common media used by teachers in English teaching and learning process. Audio-visual media are tools used to deliver information with both audio (sound) and visual (image) components. Because it possesses both characteristics, this type of media has a lot of potentials. The purposes of this study are (1) to know the level of English senior high school teachers’ interest in using audio-visual media to teach English language, (2) to find out the use of audio-visual media by senior high school English teachers to teach English language. This study was conducted using a quantitative approach adopting the survey design. The data were collected using questionnaire. The respondents of this study were English senior high school teachers in one region of Central Java. A total of 65 teachers participated in this study consisting of 24 (36.9%) male teachers and 41 (63.1%) female teachers. The results of this study show that the teachers taught using audio-visual media. In relation to the post finding the report found that teachers had a “high interest” towards the use audio-visual media to teach English language in senior high school with mean score 3.38 of 4.00 and standard deviation .31. In addition, through the calculation of EFA (Exploratory Factor Analysis) in this study found three factor component related to this research, namely delivery with total mean score 3.05 of 4.00 standard deviation .14, teacher role mean score 3.05 of 4.00 standard deviation .13 and development mean score 2.88 of 4.00 standard deviation .44. From three factor components, the total mean score was found to be 3.06 of 4.00 with a standard deviation of 28. Then, the use of audiovisual media in teaching English language by senior high school teachers’ activities is responded “meet expectation”. So, this study produces data that teachers have been able to use audio-visual media properly according to the criteria through data that shows teachers get a high score on the total mean score.
