Abstract
Heating value is the total max al heat energy released by a fuel through a perfect combustion reaction of mass union or volume of the fuel. Flow caloriemeters were specifically used in this study to calculate the heat value of gas phase fuels. Previous research results in heat values are still far below their theoretical heat values. Previous research there are indications that in certain LPG discharges as air discharge increases, the heat value of LPG gas has increased, but it is not yet known the maximum limit of the increase in heat value in the LPG discharge. The purpose of this study was to have the effect of adding excess water variations to the heat value of LPG gas at a discharge of 0.5 LPM resulting from the combustion process and the efficiency of the flow calorimeter tool. The study used LPG gas discharge of 0.5 LPM and water discharge of 1 LPM by adding variations of excess air of 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, and 60%. The material used in the study was LPG gas with propane (C3H8). The test is done within 1 hour (60 minutes) of each variation which must be taken temperature data every 2 minutes. The method of adding excess air variation to LPG gas discharge of 0.5 LPM aims to obtain a sample of data testing the experimental heat value and more optimal flow calorimeter efficiency. The maximum heat value experiments in LPG discharge of 0.5 LPM is in excess water 50% amounting to 44822.65 kJ/kg, while the lowest in stockiometric conditions is 41955 kJ/kg. Efficiency on the flow calorimeter device has an average of 90.73%. It can be concluded that the higher the excess air discharge in lpg gas 0.5 LPM given at the time of combustion, the higher the experimental heat value of LPG and the efficiency of the flow caloric meter tool. The efficiency of the high flow calorimeter tool in this test can be used as a consideration to measure the heat value of gases other than LPG in subsequent tests.
