Abstract
Acne vulgaris is a very common skin health problem. Acne vulgaris is a skin disease that occurs due to chronic inflammation of pilosebaceous follicles which is characterized by the presence of comedones, papules, pustules, nodes, and cysts at their predilection sites. Cases of acne vulgaris in Indonesia continue to increase from year to year. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the relationship between the level of knowledge of acne vulgaris and its management behavior in students of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. This research was conducted by observation with a cross sectional approach. Sampling was carried out using the proportional random sampling technique, where the samples in this study were students of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta in 2018, 2019, and 2020. The data analysis methods used were univariate analysis and bivariate analysis. The results of the univariate analysis showed that the level of knowledge about acne vulgaris of respondents was 89.9% in the good category, 10.1% in the sufficient category and no respondents were found in the poor category. Acne vulgaris management behavior of respondents was 86.9% in the positive category and 13.1% in the negative category. The results of the bivariate analysis obtained a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05) and a correlation strength of 0.465, so it can be concluded that there is a relationship between the level of knowledge about acne vulgaris and its management behavior with a moderate correlation in students of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.
