Abstract

Language learning strategies is a specific action taken by learners to improve their language learning process. The use of language learning strategies can be varied based on a lot of factors, such as gender. This research aims at investigating the most-frequently used language learning strategies by students in Islamic school with bilingual program and the gender factor affecting language learning strategies by students in Islamic school with bilingual program. This utilized quantitative approach as a research design. Data were collected from 80 participants of students in Islamic school with bilingual program. In addition, the research used The Strategy Inventory for Language Learning proposed by Oxford in 1990 to gather the data. The result revealed that the most frequently used language learning strategy by the students was social strategies (M=2.67). Moreover, there was no statistical significance between male and female students in the use of LLS, the result showed that the significance value was more than the significance level (0.661<0.05) which means that HI was rejected. It also implied that there was no statistically significant difference between male and female on the use of language learning strategies. The mean score of male LLS students was 300.758 and the mean score of female LLS students was 298.517 in this research.
