Abstract

Figs play an important role in reducing cholesterol. Fig extract with doses of 50 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg and 150 mg/kg reduce triglyceride levels and increase HDL cholesterol levels. This study aims to determine the effect of Ficus carica L. (tin) fruit extract on chewable tablet to reducing total cholesterol in rats induced by high-fat diet. The method was simplicia extraction maceration, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), wet granulation method to make chewable tablets and quality evaluation. Chewable tablets are divided into three formulas, F1 (50 mg), F2 (100 mg), and F3 (150 mg). The 32 rats used were divided into 8 groups (n=4), negative control group, F1, F2, F3, F4, positive control, base and normal. Fig fruit extract with a yield of 31.22% contains chemical compounds such as saponins, polyphenols and flavonoids. HPLC test of quercetin compounds in which the standard and samples contained the same compound at the 5th minute retention time, and the quercetin content was 0.280 ± 0.006 ppm. Granules evaluation of each formulation according to the requirements. Test the compressibility index of tablets for each ≤10% formula. Test the moisture content of each formula ≤2-4%. The chewable formulation tablet test met the requirements except the disintegration time test was more than 30 minutes, and the hardness test was more than 3 kg for each formula tablet. The average diameter of the tablet test results F1 (1.23 ± 0.0), F2 (1.28 ± 0.0), F3 (1.39 ± 0.0) and F4 (1.32 ±0, 0). The average weight (mg) of tablets has a standard deviation ≤10% according to the requirements. The dissolution test pushed the time, the more quercetin dissolved. Based on statistical analysis, chewable tablet formulation with a dose variant of F3 (150 mg) reduced blood cholesterol levels in rats similar to simvastatin by 72% (F3) and 71.6% (Simvastatin).
