Abstract

In the field of welding, there are several things that need to be considered, one of which is the strength of the welds by testing the welds. The purpose of this research is to analyze and determine the effect of SMAW welding bevel angle on microstructure, hardness value (Vickers), and flexural strength of butt joint on API 5L X46 pipe material. This is because in its application in the CY-III Lomanis-Rewulu Pipeline Development project, PT. Nindya Karya sometimes needs to be repaired whichresults in a large potential for changing the size of the bevel angle. The welding process is carried out with a butt-joint connection using API 1104 5L grade X46 pipe material. The variations used are 60º, 65º, 70º, and 75º. The results of the welds will be tested for NDT RI and flexural tests using API 1104 standards, metallographic tests using ASTM E340-15 standards, and hardness tests using ASTM E92-82 standards. From this research, several results were obtained, that the larger the weld angle, the wider the weld surface, the wider the HAZ area, and the smaller the grain size in the HAZ and WM regions. The highest hardness values in the HAZ and WM area were obtained at an angle of 75º with a hardness value of 135.73 VHN on HAZ, and 146.19 on WM. While the highest flexural strength value is obtained at an angle of 60º with a flexural strength value of 5.685 MPa on the rootbend, and 4.222 MPa on the side bend. This shows the correlation between bevel angle, hardness value and flexural strength that the greater the bevel angle, the greater the hardness value and the smaller the flexural strength value
