Abstract
Backgrounds: Cervical cancer is still one of the leading causes of death, especially in developing countries where almost 75% of the estimated half a million new cases occur every year. In fact, cervical cancer can actually be prevented by primary and secondary prevention. Primary prevention is done by vaccination program and secondary prevention is by detecting cervical cancer, namely by VIA examination and Pap Smear. Pap smears are considered more accurate in detecting cervical cancer with an accuracy rate of 77.3% and VIA of 66.7% (Sinha et al., 2018). Public knowledge about cervical cancer is relatively low, causing approximately 70% of women undergoing cervical cancer treatment to start treatment when their condition is already severe. Sleman Public Health Center is a health center that provides pap smear examination services among 25 health centers in Sleman Regency, but the number of women who do pap smear examination is still relatively low. Methods: This study used a cross sectional study design. This research was conducted online using a google form on women in Sleman III Hamlet, Triharjo Village, Sleman with the Total Sampling technique. The sample of this study amounted to 73 respondents. This research was conducted in August 2021. The results obtained through the questionnaire were analyzed by using the Fisher & Contingency Coefficient statistical test. Results: The results showed that 60% of respondents had never had a Pap Smear, 52% had higher education, 81% had good knowledge of cervical cancer and 56% did not support Pap Smear examination. The results of the Fisher test between education level and attitude towards Pap Smear showed a p-value of 1.000, with a very strong correlation (0.872), as well as statistical tests between the level of knowledge about cervical cancer and Pap Smear examination showed a p-value of 1.000, with a close relationship between very strong relationship (0.935), Conclusion: This study shows that there is no relationship between the level of education and the level of knowledge about cervical cancer on attitudes towards Pap Smear examinations.
