Abstract

Background: Dysmenorrhea is caused by excessive contractions during the sloughing of the uterine wall with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, cramping pain in the lower abdomen. The incident of primary dysmenorrhea in Indonesia is 54,89%. Some teenagers do not know how to treat dysmenorrhea. The pharmacological therapy of dysmenorrhea includes painkiller and anti-prostaglandin, while nonpharmacological therapy includes warm compresses and distraction therapy. One of the distraction therapy that are easy to do is murottal Al-QXU¶aQ. Methods: This study method is quasi-experimental with a control group design. There are 50 subjects in the experimental group and 50 subjects in the control group. The sampling technique applied purposive sampling. Data analysis of this study applied Wilcoxon, Mann-Whitney, Relative Risk (RR), NNT (Number Needed to Treat) test was done to determine differences in pain levels before and after intervention. Results: The mean level of pain in the control group was 5.42 (pretest) and 2.86 (posttest), while in the experimental group it was 5.56 (pretest) and 5.30 (posttest). The p-value in the experimental group was <0.001 meaning that there was a significant difference in the level of pain before and after, while the p-value in the control group was >0,05 meaning that there was not a significant difference. Relative Risk shows the risk of being given murottal intervention resulting in a decrease in pain that is 3,267 times. NNT was obtained at 1,467. Conclusion: Murottal Al-Qur'an significantly reduced the degree of pain with a pvalue <0.001.
