Abstract
Agrarian conflicts are rife in Indonesia, one of which is the conflict in Kinipan Village, Lamandau Regency, Central Borneo with PT Sawit Mandiri Lestari which has yet to be resolved. This conflict was caused by the conversion of forest functions to oil palm plantations which unilaterally destroyed Laman Kinipan's customary forest up to 1,242 ha (2018) and it is believed that the area of forest damage has now increased to more than 2,000 ha. This incident prompted the indigenous people of Laman Kinipan's resistance movement against PT SML to the Regent of Lamandau Regency to express their rejection of the palm oil industry in their customary territory. Besides that, the question arises, what is the political strategy of the Laman Kinipan Indigenous Peoples in defending customary forests from clearing land for oil palm plantations? This research uses the descriptive qualitative method. The data sources used are primary and secondary data. The steps for collecting data are through targeted interviews, unstructured observations, studies of mass media and literature, and interactive model data analysis. The theoretical reference in this research is Customary Politics and Environmental Politics. The results of this study show that the Laman Kinipan Indigenous Community movement is a new social movement initiated by indigenous peoples through a solidarity movement in strengthening identity. The resistance action shown by the Laman Kinipan Indigenous Community is more effective and innovative and has power than other resistance actions in general. As for the various resistance movements of the Laman Kinipan Indigenous Community in defending their customary forest, among others: 1. Requesting justice and protection from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, KSP, and Komnas HAM; 2. Demonstrations against oil palm plantations in the customary area of Laman Kinipan; 3. Establishment of guard posts in conflicting customary forest areas; 4. Mediation at the PT SML office; 5. Social media campaigns; 6. To sue the Regent of Lamandau to the Palangkaraya Administrative Court. This movement also forms external support through the “Justice For Kinipan Coalition” consisting of AMAN, Walhi, YLBH RI, and Save Our Borneo.
