Abstract
From the end of the Qing dynasty in 1912, communist rule and the Nationalist or Kuomintang (KMT) party held sway until the 1930s. However, the influence of the communist party was more dominant than the nationalist party itself, causing the nationalist or Kuomintang parties to break away from China. As a result, systems of government are fragmented and there are differences in ideologies between the two. It is these system discrepancies that cause conflicting issues to create longstanding conflicts. Chinese threats were given to Taiwan as well as military threats to reunite Taiwan with China into one sovereign nation. Taiwan, however, remained firm in its determination to rid China with the help of the United States. The purpose of this study was to respond to Taiwan's response to Tsai Ing-wen's reign to the Chinese military threat in 2018- 2019. The research uses a balance of threats by Stephen M. Walt and alliance by Hans Morgenthau, to answer questions further. The methods used are deductions, and analysis approaches of descriptive techniques with qualitative data through library research data and dates-data from websites, journals, e-journals, media, and other sources. Based on a balance of threats and alliance theory, it can be drawn to the conclusion that Taiwan's response to Tsai Ing-wen's reign against the Chinese military threat in 2018-2019 against that: (1) Taiwan's wanting independence from China, (2) Taiwan's defense against Chinese military threats, (3) China's response and response to maintaining Taiwan, (4) Taiwan's response to the Chinese military threat, and (5) Taiwan's response to the Chinese military threat, and (5) its proximity to the United States.
