Abstract

The goal of this research is to gather Kyoto dialect expressions as well as their equivalent within standard Japanese. The research method used is the Qualitative Descriptive method, followed by a deep investigation to form concrete data. This is done by gathering, organizing, classifying, studying, and interpreting the data obtained. Said data was then analyzed to find just what kind of Kyoto dialect expressions were used in the film Gion Bayashi along with its equivalent in standard Japanese. Based on the data found, there are a total of 100 dialogs using Kyoto dialect and 24 distinct types of Kyoto dialect expressions. Through the film Gion Bayashi, it's discovered that when compared to standard Japanese, Kyoto dialect characteristically sounds much softer and calm, thanks to its frequent use of Japanese vowels such as ya, su, hen, and sen, especially at the end of a sentence.
