Abstract
Writing anxiety is detrimental to students' mental health and academic performance since it makes them nervous and hesitant to write. College students may experience higher writing anxiety levels since college students are expected to write more complex English-language academic text. Male and female writers have varied levels of writing anxiety. This study aims to determine the level of writing anxiety of EFL students in university and find the differences in writing anxiety levels between male and female EFL students. This recent study employs a quantitative method using a survey design as the research design. The questionnaire used was adopted from Cheng (2004), namely Second Language Writing Anxiety Inventory (SLWAI). The researcher used the total sampling technique, and the participants were the ELED (English Language Education Department) students' batch 2019. The findings reveal that the female and male students have a high level of writing anxiety. The female students' mean score is 71.5, and the male is 68.1. The T-test score is .121, which means lower than 0,05 Sig. (2-tailed). It can be concluded that was no significant difference in writing anxiety levels based on gender.
