Abstract
In Indonesia there are about 30,000 species of plants, of which 7000 species have medicinal properties. Traditional medicine is widely used by the community as one of the treatment efforts. The use of traditional medicine is based on the assumption that herbal medicine has no side effects. Traditional medicine will be useful and safe if its use is correct both in terms of dosage and how to use it. This research aims to describe the use of traditional medicine and the level of public knowledge about traditional medicine in Ambarketawang Village Yogyakarta. The design of this research is descriptive. This research involves 102 respondents and the sampling technique uses purposive sampling. The measurement of the level of knowledge is measured using a questionnaire and assessed by the Guttman scale (true or false statement). The data analysis is carried out by descriptive statistics. The level of knowledge is categorized into good, sufficient, and less. The results shows that the level of community knowledge in Ambarketawang Village about traditional medicine is 9 respondents (8.82%) have good knowledge, 60 respondents (58.82%) have sufficient knowledge, and 33 respondents (32.35%) had knowledge which is lacking. The description of the use of traditional medicine in Ambarketawang Village Yogyakarta is that people use traditional medicine with reasons to reduce side effects (35.3%), sources of information about traditional medicine in the community are obtained through families (63.7%), most of the people get traditional medicine from traditional medicine shops (45.1%), people use traditional medicines with the aim of curing sudden/mild illnesses (43.1%), the most widely used form of traditional medicine preparations by the community is stew (54.9%), the average The average length of use of traditional medicine by the community is 2-3 days (39.2%), the community feels the effects of using traditional medicine, which is cured (97.1%), most of the people already know the name or content in traditional medicine used (68.6%), and some people did not feel any side effects after using traditional medicine (66.7%).
