Abstract

This paper is entitled The Effect of Study Assistance on Student Learning Outcomes at the Yatim Piatu & Dhu'afa Orphanage of Muhammadiyah Prambanan. This research was conducted at the Yatim Piatu & Dhu'afa Orphanage of Muhammadiyah Prambanan. The respondents of this research were some orphans currently studying at junior high school and were in total of 24 children. The objective of this research is to identify the effect of study assistance on the learning outcome among children at the Yatim Piatu & Dhu'afa Orphanage of Muhammadiyah Prambanan. It also aims at identifying the supporting and inhibiting factors during the study assistance process. This research applied a qualitative research approach which is a type of research conducted under a deductive-inductive approach. From the data analysis conducted by the researcher, it was found that: study assistance affected learning outcomes by as much as 63% with the R Square value of 0,693. Whereas the supporting factors for study assistance were the provision of support and facilities by the orphanage management, and also the easy communication access between students and the study assistants as they themselves were the residents of the orphanage who were older and college students. Whilst, the inhibiting factors in this research were the lack of interest and motivation shown by some students in joining the learning process. There was a considerably high number of students who prefer playing with their peers to participating in the study assistance.
