Abstract

This research aims to describe the characteristics of the foster children at Bina Insani orphanage and Islamic boarding school, the parenting received by the children at home and the parenting implemented at the orphanage and Islamic boarding school of Bina Insani in shaping the social behavior of the children. Moreover, the research also aims to describe the parenting effect on the social behavior of the children at Bina Insani orphanage and Islamic boarding school. This is a field research with a qualitative approach where the research subjects are selected using a purposive sampling technique. The data collection techniques of this research were done through observation, interview and documentation while the data analysis was done using data collection, data reduction, data display and verification or conclusion drawing. The research findings are as follows: (1) The characteristics of the foster children at Bina Insani orphanage and Islamic boarding school are different because they are from diverse families and social lives. (2) The parenting implemented at Bina Insani orphanage and Islamic boarding school prioritizes the principle of kinship so that the children feel safe and comfortable. (3) The social behavior of the foster children at Bina Insani orphanage and Islamic boarding schools is relatively diverse. However, overall they grow into individuals who are aware of their own condition and are accustomed to being responsive, helpful and having a vision for the future for their own lives and the surrounding community
