Abstract
Peel-off gel mask is a mask that is practically easy to use, once dry the mask can be removed immediately and is able to remove dead skin cells. Aloe vera and robusta coffee contain flavonoids and polyphenols which have antioxidant activity to prevent premature aging due to free radicals. This study aims to formulate and determine the effectiveness of antioxidants contained in peel-off gel masks from aloe vera (Aloe vera) and robusta coffee (Coffea canephora) extracts and compare them with peel-off mask products on the market. The method used in this research is experimental laboratory. The formulation of the peel-off gel mask begins with mixing the peel-off mask gel base and then adding 7.5% aloe vera extract and 2.5% robusta coffee extract (F1), 5% aloe vera extract and 7.5% robusta coffee extract. (F2), 2.5 aloe vera extract and 7.5% robusta coffee extract (F3) and without using extract (F4). Tests on the preparations made included organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, adhesion, dispersibility, drying speed, irritation tests and antioxidant activity tests using the DPPH method. The results showed that all peel-off gel mask preparations were brown in color, had a characteristic coffee smell, and were homogeneous. The average pH test is 5.3 to 6.5 and does not irritate the skin, the speed of drying takes between 20-30 minutes. The adhesion test is between 6.7 to 36.3 seconds. The dispersion test is between 1.8 to 2.7. The results of the antioxidant activity test for peel-off gel mask preparations at F3 with a concentration of 2.5% aloe vera juice and 7.5% robusta coffee extract were the most optimal with IC50 values of 87.97 ppm, and comparison results with peel-off mask products on the market. both fall into the strong category. The conclusion of this study is that aloe vera extract and robusta coffee extract can be formulated as a peel-off gel mask and at F3 produces the best antioxidant activity.
