Abstract

The importance of the knowledge of learning style towards the method of Al-Qur’an memorization is needed because both aspects have a continuity related to sensory memory getting into the five senses. We can implement it when we have comprehended the learning style to be able to select the appropriate method in memorizing Al-Qur’an. This research aimed at finding out the method of Al-Qur’an memorization in the students of UKM LPTQ UMY who had learning styles of Visual, Auditory, and Kinaesthetic and revealing the supporting and hampering factors in the process of Al-Qur’an memorization. This research used descriptive qualitative approach with snowball sampling technique. It was carried out in UKM LPTQ UMY with category of the students who were the administrators of UKM LPTQ UMY batch 2018 and 2019 joining tahfidz department with the memorization of 3 juz at minimum and had learning styles of visual (2 students), auditory (2 students), and kinaesthetic (1 student). The data collection techniques were with questionnaire, interview, and documentation. The data analysis techniques used were data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The data validity was carried out by doing triangulation from questionnaire, interview, and documentation. The research result showed that: (1) The method of Al-Qur’an memorization in the students of UKM LPTQ UMY having visual learning style used takrir method and jama’ method which was more involving visual similar to the learning style they had, (2) The method of Al-Qur’an memorization in the students of UKM LPTQ UMY having auditory learning style used takrir, jama’, and sima’i methods. Some of the methods were related to auditory, and some others were not, (3) The method of Al-Qur’an memorization in the students of UKM LPTQ UMY having kinaesthetic learning style used tasmi’ and jama’ methods. Both methods had no correlation with kinaesthetic learning style. (4) There were 2 supporting factors in the process of Al- Qur’an memorization in the students of UKM LPTQ UMY namely family or parents and environment; while there were 3 hampering factors namely laziness, time management and finding difficult verses.
