Abstract

The existence of the global warming phenomenon which affects the ozone layer depletion in the earth can cause UV C radiation to the earth's surface and cause bad effect. In humans, prolonged UV light exposure can lead to acute and chronic health. UV C radiation is deadly radiation which spout 200-280 nm wavelength. The aim of this research is to inspect UV C exposure effect of thickness of the anterior corneal epithelium in mice (Mus musculus). This research is experimental laboratory in vivo with post-test only control group design, which use 25 mice which divided into 5 groups, they are control group, and treatment group with 15', 30', 60', and 120' UV C exposure group. The treatment group were given exposure of UV C twice for 15 days in the box with + 20 cm distances. In 16 day, mice were sacrificed and observed the thickness of the anterior corneal epithelium with miscroscop. The data will be analyzed with One-way Annova. The results of this study indicate that there is increased thickness of the anterior „corneal epithelium in the group exposed to UV C for 30' and 60'. In the group exposed to UV C for 15 a decrease of epithelial thickness compared with control groups is because of laten period, and for the group exposed UV C for 120' there are decrease of epithelial thickness too compared with group exposed UV C for 60' is due to cellular repair occurs. It can be concluded that exposure to UV C radiation in mice (Mus musculus) increased on the thickness of the anterior corneal epithelium.
