Abstract

Background : Tuberculosis is a chronic and contagious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis characterized by necrotic tissue granulation in response to the bacteria. This disease spreads quickly to people with weak immune systems. Directly Observed Treatment Short-Course (DOTS) therapy is used know if a patient is free from infection after doing tuberculosis therapy. Complications of tuberculosis will cause increased mortality and decrease the quality of life of patients. The effectiveness of therapy must be improved by developing knowledge about the factors that influence the success of tuberculosis therapy. Patient compliance in treatment, family support, drug guidelines, depression and nutritional intake in patients with tuberculosis are considered to be associated with successful tuberculosis therapy. Objective : Assess the relationship of treatment compliance factors to the success of tuberculosis therapy.
Method : The research design used was a non-experimental Cohort approach. The population in this study were patients with tuberculosis in PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital, Yogyakarta PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital and Respira Yogyakarta Lung Hospital in 2017 with a total of 57 people who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. This research was conducted for 6 months. The data then analyzed using SPSS 15.0 program. Result : The results showed that patients who were obedient in the treatment of risky tuberculosis were 21 times more likely to have successful treatment that was not adherent to treatment.
Conclusions : There is a significant relationship between treatment compliance factors and the success of tuberculosis therapy. Keywords: success of therapy, compliance factors for treatment, tuberculosis
