Abstract
Calcium has a role as a second messenger for erythropoiesis in mamalian bone marrow. The synthesis of erythrocyte will be disturbed ffree total calcium in the body is decrease. Basil (Ocimum sanctum) has approximately 32% of calcium in every 100 grams of it leaves. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of calcium (Cafe) in the basil leaves on the level of erythrocyte in mice (Mus musculus). This research is Post Test Control Group Design with the subjects are 12 mices that was divided into 3 groups and every group has 4 subjects. The first group treatment ( group Di) was given a high dose (500 mg/day) of basil leaves aqueous, the second group treatment (group D2) was given a small dose (250 mg/day) of basil leaves aqueous, and the third group (group C) as negative control. All subjects were treated for 10 days and blood was taken on day 11 after bleeding induction on that day. Further analysis conducted with Hematology Analyzer to calculate the erythrocyte (RBC) and hemoglobin (HB) level. The results showed that the level of erythrocyte in DI 's group was 7.462.500 ± 1.501.874 IpL, D2 's group was 8.422.500 ± 1.192.263 IpL, and C's group was 9.007.500 ± 391.184 IpL. It shows a significant decrease (p <0.05) in group DI after it compared with group C. In this study, basil leaf aqueous degrade the level of erythrocyte in mice.
