Abstract

Latex ( Jatropha curcas ) is natural material that has many active compounds as saponin, flavonoid, tannin, and iodine. This compound can help speed up the process of healing the wound. However, discharging Latex is perceived not practical for modern society and also difficult to find. So its necessary to formulate latex into pharmaceutical preparations. This research aims to understand the best type and concentration of gelling agent, test of knowing the results of the physical qualities of the gel, and produce a gel with the best physical qualities. Design of this study used experimental laboratory. The material of formulation used latex (Jatropha curcas), carbomer, HPMC, methyl paraben, propyl parabe, glycerin , metabisulfit, tea, and aquadest. The study used variety of gelling agent namely HPMC 1%, 2%, 3%, and karbomer 0,5 %, 1 %, and 2%. The physical qualities test was performed organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, spread test, sticky test, viscosity test, and the physical stability of preparation test. The results of the analysis showed that the formulations with karbomer (1%) had a physical quality test results as a test of color organoleptis was clear, had distinctive smell of latex, thick, homogeneous appearance, had a pH 6, power spread 5.6 cm2, power latched onto 1,28 seconds, viscosity 40 dPas, and can last for 28 days against the fungus. But the fixed formulations need to be developed in order to improve better physical quality.
