Abstract
Fiberglass has resistance toward water so that it is good for shipbuilding while the natural fiber flax has benefit was available in abundant source and it comes from the nature. The method used in the passenger ship prototype building was hand lay-up method in which this method is done manually without helped the other machine. This method highly depends on the hand skills in flattening the resin mixture. The result of hybrid composite between fiberglass and natural fiber flax shows that the tensile strenght resulted was 89.77 mpa, strain resulted is 1.81%, and elasticity modulus was 5,75 Gpa. In the energy impact test, the energy absorbed of the hybrid specimen was 0.233 Joule, and the impact strength was 5 KJ/mm2.
