Abstract

Conscription in the past has been used by many countries to increase military capacity and capability. Norway is one of the countries which applies conscription in its country. However, Norway conscripts not only men but also women. This thesis is trying to explain the reason why Norway conducts mandatory military service not only for men but also for women. The author uses the theory of constructivism and gender equality theory to claim the hypothesis. The author also used qualitative analysis methods supported by secondary sources for the data analysis. This study found that Norway conscripts not only men but also women because Norway uphold gender equality norms in the military, which is highly influenced by the UN resolution 1325 and also to promote it in international affairs.
