Abstract
Students are familiar with paraphrasing in English learning. There are many mistakes when students paraphrase so it can be indicated as plagiarism. Therefore, there are several things that must be considered when paraphrasing. The purpose of this study is to examine the students’ perceptions on paraphrasing in English writing. This research used quantitative approach and survey as a research design. This research was conducted in an English Education Department at One Islamic Private University in Yogyakarta. The participants of this research were 214 students’ batch 2018. The researcher used questionnaire as data gathering technique. The result showed that the students have high level of students’ perceptions with the mean score of 47.14. Moreover, the result of the highest ability on paraphrasing is in the question number 10 which questioning about the importance of reading that plagiarism is a serious offense with the mean score of 3.62. The result of the lowest ability on paraphrasing is in the question number 13 which questioning about textual borrowing with the mean score of 1.00.
