Abstract
During the Covid-19 pandemic which the learning is conducted online. There are many
applications or media that can be used during this pandemic for the learning process. One of them
is Microsoft Teams. The purpose of this study was to determine obstacle and the strategies teacher
use of learning English using the Microsoft Teams application. This study used descriptive
qualitative method. The subjects participants of this study were students from an Islamic university
in Yogyakarta who collected 6 participants. Data collection is done by interview. This study found
four findings from each research question. The findings from the first research question are poor
undesired explanation of lecturers, poor internet coverage, a decrease in students' motivation in
learning English using MS Teams, and lecturers did not create groups for meetings. Then, for the
findings from the second research question, lecturers should create and deliver material excitingly,
solve internet connection problems in learning English, use games in learning English, and
lecturers should create group activities in MS Teams. From the results of the study, it was
concluded that the obstacles faced by students were still fundamental.
