Abstract

The implementation of digital learning in teaching English is influenced by several factors, one of them isteacher's beliefs. This research aimed to investigate EFL teachers’ belief about digital learning and how they enact their beliefs into the teaching English. The researcher used a case study design in qualitative approach to answer research questions. The participants of this research were five Indonesian EFL teachers who taught English at two senior high schools in Yogyakarta. The researcher gathered the data using written reflection and interview to explore teachers’ beliefs toward digital learning in teaching English. Observation was also done to investigate the implementation of digital learning during the teaching practice. The findings of this study showed that the teachers strongly believed that digital learning is very important to be implemented in their teaching. The finding reported that EFL teachers have positive belief regarding the implementation of digital learning in teaching. There are five categories of teachers’ beliefs in digital learning, namely; (1) Digital learning tools role in teaching as main teaching aid to deliver material and to check or assess students’ understanding, (2) Benefit of digital learning in teaching practice such as efficient and flexible, (3) Benefit of digital learning for students such as increase the interest in learning, motivate students, and autonomous learning, (4) Readiness or support system of digital learning such as training or workshop also autodidact, (5) Challenges in digital learning such as technical problem and lack of mastery in teaching using technology. The second finding revealed that teachers enacted their beliefs into their teaching practices, and it can be seen on (1) The implementation of several learning tools in their teaching, (2) The challenges they faced in using digital learning, (3) The strategies the used facing the challenges on digital learning in their teaching.
