Abstract
Background : Severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the virus causes COVID-19 pandemic that attack respiratory tract. This virus uses host receptor and other molecule in human cells as cellular entry. Other molecule that could act as cofactor, which is Transmembrane serine protease 2 (TMPRSS2). The study aimed to comprehend the difference of TMPRSS2 expression in SARSCoV-2 positive and negative specimens. Materials and Method: The samples used in this research were swab specimens from positive and negative SARS-CoV-2. Subsequently, the specimens amplified using reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method to obtain the expression of TMPRSS2. The result was then underwent electrophoresis and the gene expression density was quantified using Image J. Hereinafter, analysis using Shapiro-Wilk Test and Independent Sample t-Test was done to understand the difference of TMPRSS2 expression. Results: There was a tendency of increased TMPRSS2 expression in positive SARSCoV-2 specimens. However, the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion: There was no significant difference in the expression of TMPRSS2 in SARS-CoV-2 positive and negative specimens.
