Abstract
Background : Composite resin consists of three main components, namely matrix resin, filler, and
coupling agent. Inorganic fillers commonly used have the disadvantage that it does not contain
antibacterial power so that it triggers secondary caries. Therefore, a filler with antibacterial power is
needed. Natural fibers can be used instead of fillers. One of the natural fibers used is sisal fiber (Agave
sisalana).
Objective : This study aims to determine the effect of soaking Arabica coffee solution on the
color changes of 60% nanosisal composite resins, 60% nanosisal composite resins plus coupling
agents, and nanofiller composite resins.
Methods : The research method was an experimental laboratory. Sisal fibers are converted into
nano-sized sisal called nanosisal. Nanosisal is mixed with Bis-GMA, UDMA, TEGDMA,
camphorquinone, and Bisphenol diglycidyl ether (DGEBA) as a coupling agent. Z350 XT
nanofiller composite resin is used as a control. Samples were divided into three groups, and
each group consisted of 5 samples. The samples are 60% nanosisal composite resin as group A,
60% nanosisal composite resin plus coupling agent as group B and nanofiller composite resin as
group C. Samples were made with metal molds of 20 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness, then
soaked in an Arabica coffee solution. The sample was tested for color change using a
chromameter. The data obtained were analyzed using the One-Way ANOVA test.
Result : The results of the average chromaticity value of 60% nanosisal composite resin is
872.071, 60% nanofiller composite resin plus coupling agent is 881.887, and nanofiller
composite resin is 1805.422. There were significant differences in data analysis (p = 0,000 ; p <
0,05).
Conclusion : The conclusion of this study was that 60% nanosisal composite resin has a greater
color change compared to 60% nanosisal composite resins plus coupling agent and nanofiller
composite resins.
