Abstract
Background: Indonesia is predicted to enter the era of the aging population where the population aged 60 years and over exceeds 7% of the total population. Increasing age makes a person more susceptible to various physical complaints, either due to natural factors or due to disease. Health problems that occur in the elderly caused by decreased cognitive function, one of which is dementia. There are 55 million people with dementia worldwide. The increase in the number of elderly people and dementia has so far not been accompanied by an increase in the knowledge of the community and health workers regarding dementia. Aim: To find out the attitude and knowledge of health workers at the public health centre about dementia in Bantul Region of Yogyakarta Method: This study uses a quantitative descriptive method. The number of samples in this study were 71 people with purposive sampling technique. Analysis of the data used in this study is univariate analysis to determine the frequency and percentage of respondents and bivariate analysis to measure the knowledge and attitudes of health workers. The Spearman test was used in this study to see the relationship between the characteristics of the respondents and the knowledge and attitudes of health workers Result: The results of this study indicate that the level of knowledge of health workers in the health centres in the Bantul region is quite good with an average DKAS score of 26.93 ± 10.97 and the attitude of health workers at the health centres in the Bantul region is positive with an average watershed score of 95.63 ± 26, 20. Conclusion: The mean score of knowledge tends to be low when compared to previous studies. Education level and history of interacting with ODD have a significant relationship to the low knowledge of health workers about dementia. However, the attitude of health workers has a positive attitude towards people with dementia. It is hoped that health workers can increase knowledge about dementia and can maintain a positive attitude towards ODD
