Abstract
Friction welding is welding by utilizing the heat generated by the friction between the two surfaces of the material. Friction welding has important factors in supporting the welding results, including the rotational speed produced by the friction welding machine, the higher the rotational speed of the friction welding machine the better the welding results, but the previous friction welding machine only produced a rotational speed below 2500 rpm, so the speed innovation The design of the friction welding machine with a speed of 2500 rpm aims to produce a material connection that is better than the previous rotational speed of the friction welding machine, as well as the use of an easier welding machine and simpler maintenance, as well as expanding research on existing friction welding results. The first stage for the manufacture of this machine is the design of the workbench frame and component holder of this machine using Solidwork software. The next stage is the process of selecting materials and components of the friction welding machine that you want to use. Next is the process of making and assembling a 2500 rpm friction welding machine using a disc brake system, and ending with the finishing stage and testing the function of the friction welding machine. The results of the friction welding machine fabrication have several factors in the manufacturing process, namely the process of making the workbench frame using materials that are able to dampen vibrations, such as frames using 5 mm thick elbow steel and work table bases using 8 and 10 mm thick steel plates. This friction welding machine has components that support success to produce a speed of 2500 rpm, including the use of a 3 phase 3 hp electric motor, as well as a transmission system using 5 and 10 inch diameter pulleys, as well as a disc braking system that will produce a maximum stop phase in welding. . After the manufacturing process carried out the testing process itself, it was found that the friction welding machine has a drive system that produces a speed of 2500 rpm, and has a press system that produces a pressure of 0.6 Mpa, with a disc braking system.
