Abstract

Indonesia is the fourth most populated country in the world. The population of Indonesia increases significantly every year. The increase in population greatly affects the available energy. As the population increase, the energy needed is also increase, resulting in energy scarcity. Briquetting is a method to solve the problem of oil palm and LDPE plastic waste. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of briquette combustion. The charcoal material is a mixture of palm oil empty fruit bunches and LDPE plastic of 800 watt microwave co-pyrolysis with briquetting pressure of 50 kg/cm², 100 kg/cm², 150 kg/cm², 200 kg/cm². It is necessary to conduct research on the characteristics of briquette combustion using the Thermogravimetry Analysis (TGA) method to determine the characteristics of briquettes which include ITVM, ITFC, PT, and EA values. The results showed that the greater the packaging pressure would have an impact on the increase in ITVM value with an average of 4.22%, ITFC value with an average of 4.06%, PT value with an average of 3.37% and EA value with an average of 2.72%, while the more the composition of the LDPE mixture, ITVM experienced an average decrease of 8.93%, ITFC experienced an average decrease of 5.70%, PT experienced an average decrease of 4.41% and EA experienced a decrease in the average of 4.41% and EA experienced a decrease in an average of 4.39%.
