Abstract
Biomass is a material that can be obtained from plants and used as energy, one of which is palm oil waste. The increasing population in Indonesia caused more energy consumption. As the population increases, the amount of plastic waste is also increas. The microwave co-pyrolysis is an alternative process to produce car briquettes from palm fiber and low density polyethylene (LDPE). The purpose of this study was to determine the combustion characteristics of charcoal briquettes mixed with palm fiber and LDPE. This study aims to determine the combustion characteristics of charcoal briquettes mixed with palm fiber and LDPE. Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) is a method which includes initiation temperature of volatile matter (ITVM), initiation temperature of fixed carbon (ITFC), peak of temperature (PT), burning of temperature (BT), activation energy (EA) and mass loss rate. The composition of the mixture of fiber and LDPE is 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75, 0:100 and the pressure variations are 50 kg/cm², 100 kg/cm², 150 kg/cm², 200 kg/cm². The results showed that the greater the briquetting pressure, the higher the ITVM with an average increase of 4.58%, the ITFC with an average increase of 3.58%, the PT with an average increase of 1.62%, and EA with an average increase of 5.02%. The increasing LDPE mixture resulted in lower ITVM with an average decrease of 3.97%, ITFC with an average decrease of 3.11%, PT with an average decrease of 5.06%, and EA with an average decrease of 4.98%.
