Abstract
The highway as a means of transportation has an important role in supporting the success of the development of an area, so it is very important to improve the quality of the road pavement in order to better serve the traffic load. The use of asphalt porous is considered to able to solve the problem. Indonesia is a country with a very rapid development of the steel industry. Steel slag produced from the steel smelting industry can reach 10-15 tons per/day of B3 waste (Hazardous and Toxic Material) which can damage the environment, therefore it is necessary to handle steel waste because it can damage the environment. This study examined the effect of using steel slag waste as a subtitute for part of coarse aggregates with a retained sieve size of 3/8” and 4” with a percentage of asphalt content of 6%. The specification used is the Australian Asphalt Pavement Association (2004). This test is carried out using the marshall test method, asphalt flow down method and cantabro loss method. In the physical properties test of steel slag obtained the value of dry bulk density at 3.032, saturated density at 3.170, surface dry saturated density at 3.076, water absorption of 1.436%, and wear value of the steel slag at 37.1%. The test results show that the use of steel slag instead of coarse aggregates can increase the values of density, VFA, marshall stability, flow, marshall quotient, and AFD. Meanwhile, in VIM, VMA and CL have decreased.
