Abstract
Anger is a form of human emotion. Anger that never be properly controlled will beget negative impacts. Models of anger control in the Qur'an is a kind of solution for human psychological problems. This study aims to determine: (1) the concept of anger in the Qur'an; (2) the strategy of controlling anger in the Qur'an; and (3) the relevance of controlling anger in the Qur'an to the psychology of Islamic education. This research is a qualitative research along with library style. The data collection used method of documentation that examined the related involving data. Meanwhile, the data analysis utilized the Maudhu'i interpretation method, of which its steps consisted of determining themes of the study, collecting verses related to the themes, explaining meanings of the verses based on various interpretations, and concluding themes of the study. Anger in the Qur'an uses words ghadab, ghaydz, and sukht. Angry expressions found in the Qur'an are those in attitude, in words and in silence, whereas amongst their types in the Qur'an are the anger of hypocrites and disbelievers to the believers, that of the ignorant at the time of a daughter birth, that of Prophet Musa (AS) and Prophet Yunus (AS) to their people, and that of Allah SWT to humans (apostates / disbelievers), killing Muslims, suspicion to Him, and evading from war. The negative effects of anger informed in the Qur'an are encountering difficulties and regrets, no obtaining profits and undergoing losses, and getting Allah’s wrath and curse. Strategies of anger control found in the Qur'an can be carried out by begging protection from Allah, forgiving others, being patient, pouring mercy to others who have harmed us, hastening to always remember Allah (dhikr) and beg forgiveness to Him, then if forcefully angry should be done wisely. Anger control in psychology of Islamic education can be manifested by asking Allah for protection, keeping quiet, changing positions, performing ablution, praying, and remembering the Prophet's guaranteeing heaven for those who can restrain anger. Anger control in the Qur'an is then corresponding to the psychology of Islamic education. Both are mutually reinforcing and complementary in leading human beings to be compassionate, humble, patient, and compliant to the Messenger of Allah and Muslim personality.
