Abstract
Roads are the most important infrastructure to encourage the distribution of goods and services for the population and to move the wheels of the economy in a country or region. The use of porous asphalt is considered to be used in this case because porous asphalt is able to reduce the drainage load on the road pavement surface. The steel and iron industry in Indonesia is growing day by day where the steel waste produced is not controlled, causing damage to the environment and therefore, handling of steel waste is needed. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using steel slag waste as a partial replacement for coarse aggregate with retained sieve sizes of 3/8” and No. 4 with a percentage of asphalt content of 7% using the Marshall test, Cantabro loss, and Ashpalt Flow Down test methods. Testing of the physical properties of steel slag obtained the results of dry specific gravity of 3.032, apparent density of 3.170, surface dry saturated density of 3.076, water absorption of 1.436%, and wear of 37.1%. The results of the study show that the use of steel slag as a substitute for coarse aggregate can increase density, VFA, marshall stability, flow, MQ, CL and AFD but decrease VIM, and VMA. The specification used in this study is the Australian Asphalt Pavement Association (2004).
