Abstract
Growth pattern affects the teeth eruption. It also determines the change of
dental arch’s size. Furthermore, the size of dental arch also grows as
humansgrow older due to permanent tooth’s eruption. Meanwhile, dental arch is
the mesiodistal width of the entire teeth including maxilla and mandible’s dental
arch. Because of this reason, everybody has different arch length and
width. Dental arch grows during mixed dentition period at the ages of 8, 9 and
10. Hence, this study aims to establish the difference of dental arch length of the
children between the ages of 8, 9 and 10.
This research was an observasional study with cross sectional approach.
The populations and samples in this study were children ages of 8, 9 and 10 who
studied in Grogol Elementary School, District Bambang Lipuro, Bantul Regency,
Yogyakarta and total samples of this research were 66 samples for each jaws.
Data collection by dental impression of upper and lower jaw which measured to
find out the posterior and anterior arch length. Oneway Annova was used to
analyze the data.
The results of this study showed that there were significant differences in dental
arch size between children aged 8, 9 and 10 years, specifically in the arch length
of the maxillary anterior teeth between 8 years and 10 years old children with a
value of p = 0.037. Based on the results of these studies, it can be concluded that
there were differences in dental arch size between children aged 8, 9 and 10
years.
Keywords : dental arch length; growth and development pattern
