Abstract

The main material in many constructions that is often used is concrete. Concrete is always improved through various types of research as the main building material. To produce environmentally friendly concrete, extensive research has been carried out. In this study, coconut fiber was used as a substitute for coarse aggregate of concrete to make environmentally friendly concrete. The use of coconut fiber is expected to have a maximum flexural strength value and aims to reduce the amount of waste from coconut production in Indonesia. Between 0% and 2% of the coconut fiber used in this study is fiber waste. In this study, there were 16 test objects, each measuring 10 cm x 10 cm x 50 cm and in the form of a block. The specimens were tested for flexural strength at the age of 28 days. Concrete with a mixture of 0% coconut fiber has the highest flexural strength value of 27 MPa, and concrete with a combination of 2% coconut fiber has the lowest value of 6.7 MPa. The lowest density value is 686.07 kg/m3 in concrete with a mixture of 2% coconut coir, while the highest density value is 2753.09 kg/m3 in a mixture of 0% coconut coir. So from this study it can be concluded that the replacement of coarse aggregate with coconut fiber greatly affects the quality of concrete.
