Abstract
The background of the research was a phenomenon where some students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) having limited knowledge of thaharah cannot perform the thaharah practice well in accordance to its guidance. This research is aimed at improving the thaharah knowledge of the students of UMY and attempting to prove if there is a difference between before and after participating in KIAI activities. This research employed a quantitative ex post facto approach. The population of the research was 130 students of UMY participating in KIAI activities on February 14-16 2019, while the sample was 35 students. The research data were collected using questionnaires. The analysis to test the hypothesis was done using t-test. The results of statistical analysis show that there is a significant difference in student knowledge before and after participating in KIAI program. The students’ average knowledge of thaharah before participating in the program is 47.91 and after participating in the program is 71.11. It is concluded that KIAI program is effective in improving the thaharah knowledge of the civil engineering students of UMY batch 2018.Referring to the research results, the researcher proposes the following recommendations: 1) with this KIAI program, students who are currently participating in the program can earnestly take advantage of it during the program. 2) KIAI program is one of the efforts of UMY to increase religious knowledge, especially thaharah as the key to the validity of worship. It is expected that the students having less thaharah knowledge can participate in the KIAI program
