Abstract
Background: The use of urinary catheter affect the patient’s life in all aspect (physical, psychological, social, environment, and others). There is one review article that explores about experiences of urinary catheter patient’s inserted. But the article only discusses about psychosocial aspect and not discusses form all aspects and there is no article with systematic review discussing the experiences of urethral urinary catheter patients inserted with indwelling and intermitten. Objective:the aim of this research to explore about experience of urethral catheter patients with indwelling and intermitten urinary catheter. Method: This research is qualitative review. The researcher searched data from PubMed, SAGE Journals, and Mendeley. The search was restricted to English language articles and limited to last 2001-2020. The main keywords use experience and “urinary catheter*”. There were 22 articles included in the inclusion criteria. Results: Patient experiences are obtained related to sleep experiences, physical experiences (pain, urinary tract infections, bleeding, muscle spasms), catheter integration in life (negative and positive emotions, relationship with partners, physical activity, and social activities), self concept (self esteem, self identity, self image, self ideal and self role), acceptance or adaptation, environment, patient;s knowledge, the role of health professionals (nurses) and economics. Conclusion: Patient’s experience urethral catheter with indwelling and intermitten catheter were negative and positive experiences. The nurse must examine or gather information about experience or complaint (negative) and patient’s condition use urinary catheter so that the nurse can provide holistic nursing care for urinary catheter patient’s inserted.
