Abstract

The characteristics of the two-phase flow in the mini-pipe are different from the characteristics of the two-phase flow using a large pipe, because the fluid flow in the mini-pipe is different. Mini pipe has its own uniqueness, where surface tension dominates the role in the flow. With this in mind, two-phase flow research in mini-pipes needs to be carried out. The purpose of this study was to obtain primary data on flow patterns, flow pattern maps, and void fractions in mini pipelines so that they can be used as references in technological developments and future research. This research was conducted on the test section in the form of a glass pipe with a diameter of 1.6 mm and a horizontal pipe position. The fluid used is a gasmixture consisting of 25% aquadest, 70% glycerin, 5% butanol as the liquid phase and air as the gas phase. The experimental tool was equipped with an air compressor, a pressure tank, a high-speed camera (Nikon J4), and a liquid and gas flowmeter. Superficial fluid velocity (JL) = 3.979 m/s to 595.042 m/s and superficial velocity (JG) = 0 m/s to 66.33 m/s with adiabatic research conditions. In this study, the data from the flow pattern was processed using the MOV to MPEG visualization method and continued using the virtual dub program. For the void fraction using a digital image processing method using MATLAB R2014a. The flow patterns obtained are plug, annular, slug-annular, bubbly and churn. In this study, the surface tension of the solution used affects the resulting flow pattern. In general, every increase (JG) will affect the increase in the void fraction () and the results of this study show that the higher the value of JG, the greater the value of the void fraction obtained, and the higher the value of JL obtained, the smaller the value of the void fraction obtained
