Abstract
Background: Diabetes is a non-communicable disease that is often found in public health problems. Diabetes is a disease characterized by very high blood glucose levels. In people with diabetes mellitus, lipid metabolism disorders occur. As a result, cholesterol that is formed from the chain of fat and protein metabolism can accumulate in blood vessels and will accelerate the occurrence of atherosclerosis. The process of hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance in diabetes mellitus sufferers can increase uric acid reabsorption in the renal tubules, thereby increasing uric acid levels in the blood. Soursop fruit peels contain active chemical compounds in the form of tannins, steroids, glycosides, phenols, alkaloids, flavonoids, resins, carbohydrates, phlobatins, and balsams. Flavonoids are known to work as anti-diabetics, so research is needed to determine the effect of soursop rind extract. Purpose : This study was conducted to determine the effect of soursop (Annona muricata Linn) peel extract on cholesterol and uric acid levels of male white rats (Ratratus norvegicus) wistar strain induced by streptozotocin. Method: The design of this study used a Post test Only control group design. A sample of 24 white rats was randomly divided into 3 groups, namely the control group that was only given a standard diet (Group I), the control group with the diabetic model with streptozotocin injection (Group II), and the treatment group that was injected with streptozotocin and induced by the soursop peel extract at a dose of 300mg / kgBW (Group III). Each group consisted of 8 white Wistar rats. Result : In this study, the average total cholesterol level in each sample group was Group I 73.78 ± 2.26 mg / dl, Group II 75.88 ± 7.58 mg / dl, Group III 70.75 ± 2.98 mg / dl. And the average blood uric acid levels in Group I 0.67 ± 0.07 mg / dl, Group II 0.70 ± 0.03 mg / dl, Group III 0.69 ± 0.08 mg / dl. From the analysis of ANOVA data obtained a value of p > 0.05 which showed that there is no significant difference in the average total cholesterol and uric acid levels from the three sample groups. Conclusion : In this study, the administration of soursop (Annona muricata Linn) peel extract at a dose of 300 mg / kgBW did not affect the cholesterol and uric acid levels of male white rats (Rattus Norvegicus) Wistar strain induced by streptozotocin.
