Abstract
Mentally retarded children have intellectual and mental limitations. Mentally retarded children have a general intellectual who is below the normal average, so mentally retarded children do not have the ability to take care of themselves independently, including maintaining the cleanliness of their teeth and mouth. The purpose of writing this literature review is to determine the effect of oral health education on the OHI-S score of mentally retarded children. Implementation of extension must be with the maximum planning to achieve the success of delivering extension information to children. There are several kinds of methods and media that can be used in the implementation of extension so that the information can be easily understood by children. One of the assistive media that can be used in oral health education is video media, video media has the advantage of being able to display moving images and emitting sound, thereby providing a stimulus or encouragement to children for brushing behavior which can improve the status of oral and dental hygiene. According to this study, it can be concluded that there is an effect of oral health education on the OHI-S score in mentally retarded children
