Abstract

This study aims to find out the strategy, implementation, and development of halal tourism in Yogyakarta. The study shows that the Tourism Office of Special Region of Yogyakarta is in the stage of developing halal tourism in Yogyakarta. It is evidenced by the Tourism Office’s program which conducts socialization to the public, cooperates with business actors applying halal products, verifies food places, hotels, and tourist attractions, and even appeals them to implement health protocols in tourist spots during the pandemic. The people in Yogyakarta are mostly Muslim and practice halal life making Yogyakarta a city that is friendly to Muslim tourists. Even now, almost all eating places have halal certification and there are many sharia hotels in Yogyakarta. However, the absence of government regulations governing halal tourism in Yogyakarta so that the public awareness, such as the importance of halal certificates, becomes an obstacle in the development of halal tourism.
