Abstract

Supervisors have a very important role in the improvement of teacher competency. Meanwhile, according to available information, It tums out that Islamic religious education teacher supervisors are still very few in number and competence are still low. This study aims to: 1) Describe the character-based lslamic religious education in the city Yogyakarta SMP; 2) Describe: a) the role of the supervisor in the implementation of Islamic religious education based character; b) describe monitoring techniques; c) find the result of oversight in creating a character-based Islamic religious education.
The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. Location of the study is six (6) SMP in the city of Yogyakarta, using purposive sampling technique of deterrnining the triangulation of data; school, criteria into account: l) public and private; 2) level of accreditation; 3) the level of favorability. Subjects were three (3) supervisors of Islamic religious education teacher; 6 (six) principals and six (6) teachers as inforrnants of this research. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed descriptively through the stages: 1) data collection; 2) categorization of data; 3) data reduction; 4) triangulation of data; 5) conclusion. After a study of various informants and other sources, it could concluded that: 1) Implementation of Islamic religious education in junior higl school-based character of Yogyakarta city is good enough that includes planning implementation, and assessment; 2) Supervision of Islamic religious educatioi teacher: a) act more as supervisors and evaluators, yet emphasizes the motivato and inspiration; b) monitoring technique that is often done is the technique o group supervision; c) the results of supervisory teacher of Islamic religiou education, in tenns of managerial supervision, showed a change in th implementation of leaming, service staff, and awareness at the same manageria supervisor principals become better. From the results showed an increase in th academic supervision of teacher in the aspect of making lesson plans, use o media and the way of teaching in the classroom. On increasing student academi achievement look and character of students better. Outcome indicators have nc been achieved in the regulatory oversight conducted, nor both academi managerial supervision can not be done to the maximum to reach all areas o junior high school in the city of Yogyakarta due to the limited number inspectors. Furthermore, the teacher can not control the activities of student outside of school.
