Abstract
The polishing procedure is an important step in composite resin restoration because it reduces the surface roughness of the restoration. A smooth and well-polished restoration surfaces can increase the microhardness and minimize discoloration on the tooth surface This study aims is to examine the differences of one step polishing systems on surface roughness, microhardness and color stability of bulk fill composite resin. The samples were bulk fill composite resin which was molded with a diameter of 4 mm and a thickness of 4 mm (n=30) for microhardness (n=15) and surface roughness (n=15) tests and a mold with a diameter of 6 mm and a thickness of 4 mm for color stability (n=15). The samples were divided into three groups in which each consisted of 5 samples for each variable and were polished using PoGo, OptraPol and One Gloss. Samples were immersed in aquades and were stored in an incubator at temperature of 37⁰C for 24 hours. Furthermore, the sample for color stability test were immersed in tea solution for 7 days. Color stability measurement was done by compare the results of color measurements using a spectrophotometer before and after immersion. The microhardness was tested using Vickers Microhardness Tester, while the surface roughness was tested using the Stylus Profilmeter Fowler Surfcorder SE1700. The one way ANOVA and Least Significant Difference test were used for surface roughness, and Kruskall-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests were used for microhardness and color stability. The results showed that the pogo produced most smooth surface roughness significantly (p=0.006), the highest microhardness significantly (p=0.002), and the lowest color change significantly (p = 0.027). It can be concluded that PoGo produce lower surface roughness and discoloration, and higher microhardness than OptraPol and OneGloss one.
