Abstract

Singkong karet leaves, jarak kepyar and ketapang are 3 types of natural diet that can be used for Samia cynthia. The different types of diet can affect the life cycle of S. cynthia. The objective of this research was to study the effect of the type of diet on the life cycle and reproductive capacity of S. cynthia. The research was conducted by giving the three types of diet to S. cynthia. Survival rate, development time, and adult fecundity are observed in this study. The results showed that S. cynthia had a high survival rate when reared with singkong karet and jarak kepyar leaves. However, S. cynthia larvae died when reared with ketapang leaf. There is a significant difference in the development time of the larval stage when fed with singkong karet and jarak kepyar leaves. However, there is no difference in the total development time. The total fecundity of adult female reared with jarak kepyar leaves was higher than that of singkong karet leaves.
