Abstract
Samia cynthia are oligophagous insect which can consume several leaves plant including cassava. However, it is not certain whether all types of cassava leaves can be used as diet for S. cynthia. This research was conducted to study the life cycle and reproductive capacity of S. cynthia which was given three types of diet i.e., singkong karet, singkong manggu, and singkong sayur leaves. The research was conducted by rearing silkworms in these three types of diet. The development time of each stage, body measurements such as body length and head width, cocoon weight and daily fecundity were observed in this research. The results showed that S. cynthia successfully completed their life cycle when they reared using singkong karet and singkong manggu leaves only. There was no difference in the development time of larvae when reared using singkong karet and singkong manggu leaves. However, development time of pupa and adult of S. cynthia was different when reared using singkong karet and singkong manggu leaves. The body size of larvae reared using singkong karet was longer than that of singkong manggu leaves, but there was no difference in head width of S. cynthia in the two treatments tested. The weight of S. cynthia cocoons reared using singkong manggu was heavier than that of singkong karet, but the pupae weight of S. cynthia was heavier when reared using singkong karet leaves. There was no diffrence in adult fecundity among two treatments.
